Taylored Mentoring Services – Positive support for young people in Gloucestershire
TMS is a mentoring service committed to helping make a change in the lives of young people in Gloucestershire. We can provide mentoring in both a group and a 1:1 environment. The majority of our young people are aged between 12 & 16 and have been permanently or partially excluded from school.
In Gloucestershire in 2016/17, there were 24 permanent exclusions and 654 fixed period exclusions in state-funded primary schools alone. In state-funded secondary schools, there were 107 permanent exclusions and 3,124 fixed period exclusions. – Gov.uk
The classroom environment is difficult. It is a complex social system full of change and challenges. At TMS we aim to provide an environment for young people to be able to talk about their feelings, opinions, situations and personal experiences. Throughout the week, our sessions are focused on improving social skills, communication and positive decisions within a group environment.
Our aim is to equip these young people with the skillset they need to succeed in life. We understand that everyone is different, it is that knowledge that allows us to ‘Taylor’ each experience to suit the individual’s needs.

Not only do we have the facility to work with young people in education, we also work closely with individuals who have SEMH needs. Having numerous different premises at our disposal allows us to ensure that the individual is placed within the correct environment to help them thrive and succeed.
At TMS, we are fortunate to have the use of four separate facilities throughout the week:
The Terrapin; Eastington, Stroud
Inside Football; Brimscombe, Stroud

At TMS we are fortunate to have the use of four separate facilities throughout the week:
The Terrapin is a recently extended unit which comprises of an open classroom space with the addition of a kitchen with cooking facilities. Adjacent to the unit is a large open grass space and a children’s playpark. The Terrapin is the ideal facility for the more reserved individual who enjoys a quieter environment.
Having this facility at our disposal throughout the week has proved invaluable. The indoor football pitches have provided our young people with an all-weather space to use for physical activity. Team-work, cohesion and communication are the core-values of our sessions at this unit.
